Google AdSense

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

Google AdSense allows you to place targetted ads on your website and earn revenue from each visitor makes on that ad.

These can be text or image based ads, as you can see on this website. They can be made to blend in or stand out, and Google has a great reputation for paying out regularly and easily.

You don’t even need to know how to programme or code to put the ads on, you just select your ad and cut and paste. And you can get it setup in about 5 mins and start earning money instantly.

Google have made great articles on how to maximise your revenues and also provide great tools.

Skype

Skype

Most people have no idea what VoIP is. Let me put it in common language… FREE CALLS.

Skype is software that allows you to call and talk to anyone else using the software completely free. It has audio quality better than phone quality and also allows you to call normal phones at very low rates.

For example I live in Australia and I call Korea all the time. There is only one other provider in Australia that gives a better cost per second rate than Skype. And I can’t be bothered to go and buy their cards. Convenience keeps me at my desktop.

Download it free at www.skype.com

Dell Axim X50 520Mhz

Dell Axim X50

I was having a coffee with my business partner and during which we needed his company ABN and details from ASIC. We didn’t have this information on us, but luckily I had just bought my Dell Axim X50 Pocket PC. Within 2 mins, I had it downloading the www.business.gov.au site through bluetooth on my mobile phone.

Pocket PCs are great for for any number of things, including scheduling, contacts, notes, media player, internet and email. Dell make a great one in the Axim X50, which is what I think good value for money, nice and small, and lots of useful extras. The X50 520Mhz has bluetooth and WiFi for wireless access.

NASA logo

Throw away your old atlas, NASA has come up with a great open source program called World Wind that lets you navigate across the globe. This is really awesome!

The basic program is around 200 mb, and loads data from the NASA servers, so you’ll want to have broadband access for this. It really is amazing what is possible!

Collectively NASA’s data sets are around 4.6 Terabytes, and if you are really keen there are even some data files to download, you can get them here , but they are quite large!

If you have broadband you must get this marvel of modern technology.

Bug me not

As website owners look for more ways to maximise revenue and provide exclusive content, more and more are turning to compulsory website registration to view content or participate in discussion.

Not only can this be annoying, but also has privacy issues. The worst offenders of late are news sites, which require you to register before being able to view a news article.

Enter www.bugmenot.com. Bugmenot has a database of logins, where you can simply enter the website address, and receive a generic pre-created login. Enter this login, save time and protect your privacy (a little bit).
